Can I lose my ETH if I stake it?

I've been hearing a lot about staking ETH as a way to earn passive income, but I'm also concerned about the risks involved. Can you please explain? If I decide to stake my ETH, is there a possibility that I could lose it? I understand that staking involves locking up my coins for a certain period, but does that mean there's a chance I won't get them back? I'd like to know more about the potential downsides so I can make a more informed decision. Can I lose my ETH if I stake it?

If a validator attempts to undermine the system, whether through malicious acts or negligence in performing their duties, they face serious consequences. The staking mechanism acts as a deterrent, as the validator risks losing their entire investment if caught misbehaving.
