Excuse me, I'm just a bit confused here. Could you please clarify something for me? I've got some DOT 4 fluid, but the instructions are calling for DOT 3. I'm wondering if it's okay to use DOT 4 in place of DOT 3. Are they interchangeable, or would there be any potential issues or compatibility concerns if I did so? I'd really appreciate your help on this matter as I don't want to make any mistakes when it comes to my vehicle's maintenance. Can I use DOT 4 if it says DOT 3?

It is generally acceptable to use DOT 4 brake fluid in place of DOT 3, as DOT 4 offers superior performance characteristics. However, the reverse is not advisable due to the potential boiling issues mentioned earlier.

Using DOT 3 brake fluid in a system designed for DOT 4 poses a significant risk of boiling the brake fluid. This boiling can occur due to the higher temperatures encountered during braking, which DOT 3 fluid may not be able to handle effectively.

Glycol-based brake fluids, such as DOT 3 and DOT 4, have the tendency to absorb water over time. This absorption can lead to corrosion within the braking system, causing damage to metal components and potentially compromising the safety of the braking function.
